Festival of Performing Arts - programme information

We now have more information about the programmes for the four performances that make up the Festival of Performing Arts.

Showtime

Friday 27 April at 7.30pm at the Exchange Hall

Part 1

Some of the greatest musical and film songs ever written, including “Moon River” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, “Bali Hai” and “Nothing like a Dame” From South Pacific, “There’s no Business like Show Business” from Annie Get Your Gun”. The songs will be performed by a specially formed Concert Choir from members of Stamford Amateur Musical Society, Karen Ingham Singers and the College Players, accompanied by Stamford Brass. The Musical Director for the Concert Choir is Nancy Simpson.

Interval – refreshments available.

Part 2

A Selection of melodies from Gilbert & Sullivan Operettas. Ruddigore, HMS Pinafore, Yeomen of the Guard and Mikado, performed by members of the Stamford Gilbert & Sullivan Society.

Everyone who has taken part during the evening accompanied by Stamford Brass will sing a rousing finale from “Les Miserables”.

Children's Special

Saturday 28 April at 2pm and 4pm at the Arts Centre Ballroom

Part 1

Queen Eleanor Technology College Final Factor soloists perform their winning competition songs.

Dick Whittington romps through the history of Stamford accompanied by singing, dancing and custard pies! Performed by the Pantomime Players

Interval – time for refreshments and ice-creams at the SAC café

Part 2

'Peter and the Wolf' by Prokofiev

Played by Stamford Chamber Orchestra and danced by Welland School of Dancing

I want to Teach the Town to Sing

Saturday April 28 at 10am at Stamford School Hall

No auditions needed - all welcome!  

Come and help us create a fun choir from scratch with Chris Rowbury, singing harmony songs from the 60s and around the world.  

Anyone from 18 to 80 who loves to sing is welcome: from football fans to secret shower sopranos, karaoke wannabees and bathroom baritones  No auditions, no need to read music, and nobody will be asked to sing solo.

Then perform with Woven Chords in the evening at ..... 

           

A Musical Banquet

Part 1

Woven Chords perform songs from around the world.

Woven Chords & Welland School of Dancing & The Period Dance Group present song and dance to two songs (Cuban and Bulgarian) and the period dance group (in full costume!) will be dancing to two more (both French).

Rutland Renaissance Dancers join Woven Chords for two period dances

Welland School of Dancing dance to two Woven Chords songs

Vocal Chords (Come-and-Sing scratch Choir) will perform, among other items, Stamford Bullards, the Monkees 'I'm a believer' and an African song

Welland School of Dancing performs an interlude dance

Two soloists from the Stamford Endowed Schools will perform.

Interval. Wine will be served.

Two more soloists from the Stamford Endowed Schools will perform

Welland School of Dancing display more of their dancing talents

Woven Chords More songs from around the world.

The Period Dancers dance to two Woven Chords songs

Audience singing – probably 3 or 4 songs, but we will decide exactly what on the night!

Bob Kelly and David Nicol perform songs with a conservation theme

Minor Chords, a small group from Woven Chords perform Unaccompanied songs

The Burghley Singers return with the first performance of Songs from 'Silly verse for kids' (Spike Milligan) by John Dobson

Stamford churches, Burghley Singers and others present 'Blessed pair of sirens'

Interval. Refreshments will be available from the BHMC café

Part 2

Stamford Primary Schools present some songs: 'Praise the Lord in the rhythm of music', Round 'Father, we adore you' or 'Seek ye first'

Tolethorpe Youth Drama offer an exerpt from 'The Railway Children'

Grand Finale: Stamford churches, Burghley Singers and others sing Handel’s resounding 'Zadok the Priest'
